Commercial coffee roasters: sizing, buying, installing and running drum roasters from 1 kg to 300 kg.
Rank spares by downtime cost and delivery time, not price. The nine parts that stop a roaster, what failure looks like for each, and what to order with the machine when you are weeks from the factory.
Preheat time is set by drum mass, not the clock. How to bring a roaster to a stable state, how to tell it is ready, why the first batch still differs, and what preheat costs per day.
Coffee loses 11–20% of its weight in the roaster. What that does to green purchasing, real machine output and cost per kilo, with the arithmetic and a table you can use.
Why afternoon batches run faster than morning ones, and the routine that stops it. A between-batch protocol template, how to set it for your machine, and why automation depends on it.
Tropical humidity, 45 °C summers and 2,500 m altitude each change how a roaster behaves. Green storage, burner sizing, cooling time and electronics — what to specify before you order.
The damper manages three things at once: heat transfer, chaff and smoke removal, and safety. What airflow does in drying, development and after first crack, and the mistakes it causes.
One probe reports the machine, the other reports the coffee. What each thermocouple measures, why they disagree, why probe size and position change the numbers, and how to use both.
Not every ‘hot air’ roaster is a fluid bed. The three ways a drum is heated, what each changes in preheat, stability and control, and where burner type comes in.
From proforma to first roast: how payment stages tie to production milestones, realistic lead times by machine size, and the pre-shipment checks that protect the balance payment.
A roaster in the café is a strong draw and a real engineering job. The three approvals to get first, how to handle smoke, heat and noise, and which machine sizes fit.
